JingYan Seed is the first vegetable seed company to surpass 100 million CNY in sales in China.  JIngYan Seed owns many intellectual property rights of its varieties and has showcased over 500 premium varieties in demonstrations and promotions across the country, including Chinese Cabbage, Pakchoi, Chili, Sweet Pepper, Tomato, Cucumber, Watermelon, Melon, Pumpkin, Spinach, Radish, Cabbage, Eggplant, etc.  JIngYan Seed’s business scale leads among China’s vegetable seed enterprises.

Among these crops, JIngYan Seed enjoys a market share of over 60% in all segments of Chinese Cabbage in Northern China. Its Jingxin-branded hybrid watermelons also have above 60% market share in East China and North China, the main regions for watermelon production under plastic tunnels. Its “Jinghu 36-series summer squash hybrids broke the monopoly of foreign seed company in the greenhouse summer squash segment in China. JingYan Seed’s Mini cucumber was the first variety to compete with imported snack cucumber seeds.  Its JIngTian and JIngJiao pepper hybrids became leading varieties in Southern winter production aimed for the northern consumer market.   Its YingFen and JingFan tomatoes have gradually caught up with foreign competition in China.

Leaf/Root Vegetable New Hybrid Breeding

The crops are Chinese cabbage、pak-choi、cabbage、cauliflower、brocolli、radish、carrot、onion and spinach. The major targets are to breed new hybrids with pest-resistant, high quality and yield、early or late maturity、suitable for cultivation in different seasons and ecological conditions, and fit for processing and exporting. We also focused on the high efficiency breeding techniques、such as haploid breeding、marker-assisted selection、heterosis and commercial seed production techniques. Meanwhile, cultivation technique and the extension of new hybrids have been carried out.

Cucurbit Vegetable New Hybrid Breeding

We exploit and pyramid excellent gene resources in cucumber, watermelon, melon, pumpkin by developing evaluation and selection methods for quality and resistance and combining the conventional breeding with the biotechnology techniques (eg. DH technique, molecular marker-assisted selection). The excellent hybrids including “Beijing” series cucumber, “Jingxin” series watermelon, “Jingyu” series melon, “Jinghu” series summer squash, “Jingli” series pumpkin have been released.

Solanaceous Vegetable New Hybrid Breeding

Researches on breeding、cultivation and the extension of new varieties in tomato、pepper and eggplant are carried out. The advanced breeding techniques such as marker-assisted selection, DH breeding, and distant hybridization combining embryo rescue are utilized in innovating and pyramiding germplasm resources. The new hybrids with multiple disease and pest resistance, high quality and different types in these three solanceous fruits are our main topics.
